SINGAPORE: 13-year-old Christian Villeneuve, who is an aspiring Formula One driver, said he is willing to swap his Canadian citizenship for a Singapore one to achieve his dream.

But for now, the Canadian International School student has settled for a smaller and slower set of wheels. Thanks to a private sponsorship, Villeneuve will be competing in the Asian Karting Open Championship.

"It is going to be my first time (in) open racing against other people from many different countries, so (it) could be quite tough," said the Singapore permanent resident.

For the Asian championship, he will be competing in the junior category for those aged 13 to 16.

Benjamin Goh, team director, said: "If you emerge as a winner in that category, there is a very high chance that you can get a seat in A1 or even a single seater like BMW."

Villeneuve, along with five team-mates from Singapore, will compete in the championship which kicks off in June.
